Everyone with a business could find themselves in a tricky situation some day when something goes wrong. Can you imagine switching your laptop on only to realize you’ve lost a really important file? What would you do if someone stole your login details and tried to sabotage your site? Everybody thinks nothing bad will ever happen to them and I hope they’re right, but it can happen to everyone. Take a look at some of the weird things that could go wrong.
You lose your laptop
You don’t think anything like this could ever happen to you, but it could, and if it does you should be prepared. You don’t even need to leave it on the subway because someone can rip it out from your hands. The physical laptop isn’t too important because it can be replaced, but it’s what is inside it that makes it important, so just make sure you back up your files every time you do something when you’re out of the office.
Someone steals your details
Hackers get smarter every single day and they can do some real damage if they get inside your computer. An example would be hiding keylogging software where you can’t see it and watching everything you do. They will have a record of every single keystroke and what do you think they will do with that information? It certainly won’t be anything enjoyable for you, so make sure your security software is up-to-date.
Your email list disappears
What would you do if you woke up tomorrow and you didn’t have an email list? The reason it disappeared is because your service provider messed up. They said they are sorry, but it doesn’t mean much because it’s ripped a huge chunk out of your business. If you want to make sure something like this never happens to you it’s important to make a copy of your list on a regular basis.
A damaged reputation
Once people start talking about you in a negative way it’s very hard to shake it off. You can hire a company to come in and sort out your reputation, but they won’t be able to stop the haters. If your reputation is seriously damaged you might see a decline in sales. The only solution I can offer you is to look after your customers and make sure you give amazing value 100% of the time.
You get penalized
Most online businesses rely on Google for a large percentage of their traffic. Some of them are sneaky and they try to play Google for fools. They use some really horrible SEO tactics and end up getting penalized. Do you know how to stop this from happening? Try not to manipulate the search engines in the first place, or at least do it professionally so it’s not obvious what you’re doing.
A personal injury
This is something nobody thinks about until it’s too late. Can you imagine what would happen if you fell off your motorbike and broke your arm? You would have to try and run your business using five fingers. I don’t know how fast you can type with one hand, but I’m pretty sure it would slow you down. If you have proper systems in place you can hire someone and get them to do all of your work while you recover.
A missed payment
Do you know what happens when you don’t pay your bills? If you forget to pay for something like website hosting the company you’re with won’t keep your website up for very long. That example is maybe a little extreme, but just remember that you might have recurring payments that you’ve forgotten about and if they don’t go through you could lose something important.
